Why not use clutch to hold car on hill?
When I am launching on a hill, I use the clutch at friction point to hold the car for a second to prevent rolling back, and then I give gas to get going. When the clutch holds the car that way, what's hurting? rubbing clutch plates or built up pressure/heat due to engine power not being transformed into momentum (similar to holding the wheels of those battery powered toy cars when the motors are connected to the battery, in which case heat builds up but nothing is rubbing).
