Thinking of buying Honda CG125?
For commuting - I had a 1985 one with 50,000 miles on it about 10 years back, it ran fine, but the 6v electrics made it like riding with a dynamo ie lights went off when you stopped. The newer ones are now in my price range, I see you can get a mint low miles 2008 model for about £1500. My question is, the practicality on these seems to have been comprimised, the earlier ones had chain enclosure etc, and could be serviced with a screwdriver and a used toilet roll, are the new ones still made to "last forever" or did Honda get the gist that if you make a bike that lasts forever you won't sell many new ones?
I bought one in the early nineties, made in Brazil. Quality not a patch on the old Japanese bikes although it did have 12V electrics and enclosed chainguard. Mine had contact breaker ignition although the later ones went electronic. The biggest fault lay in the spindle through the centrestand and rear brake lever, which seized solid after fifteen months use. I would still buy a CG125 over all the other commuter bikes.
